Movie Night

Went to see The Iron Lady yesterday and Meryl Streep does a terrific job. I can see why she's up for so many awards . Luckily our local Paramount theater is one of the sites for holding an oscar night with proceeds going to support the Virginia Film Festival. Since I volunteer at the Paramount I'll be at the center of all the festivities so I'm looking forward to it. Who are you wanting to win for the top catagories? I also saw My Week With Marilyn and Michelle Williams was good but I don't think she'll beat out Meryl.

Restaurant week

Restaurant week just finished in the Charlottesville area. Yesterday I went with a group of friends to the Bavarian Chef in Madison, VA. Everything was delicious. I started with the sausage sampler appetizer which was served over sauerkraut. My entree was pork medallions seved with a tomato based sauce with onions mushrooms and bacon. Sides included potato dumplings,  spaetzle, creamed corn, orange glazed carrots, zuccini and summer squash, red cabbage, mashed potatoes, and green beans in a tomato based sauce. People come down from Wash. DC frequently to eat here. Everyone took home a doggie bag and I have enough for three meals. The dessert choices were bread pudding, nut roll or apple struedel. I had the struedel and it didn't dissapoint. Served with a vanilla sauce, almonds and whipped cream and topped with a cherry. Next rstaurant week is in July. Cost is $26 and $1 goes to our local food bank so it's a win-win all around. Don't know what we'll try next but it's always fun to share with my group of friends.

Part time work

Usually on Friday's I volunteer for a local senior day care facility. However today my former school called and needed a quick substitute. Went in to help them out. They have always been like family to me as when I moved here 12 years ago it was just my Mom and me. Always fun to go back and catch up on everyone's news and the kids were great. Go Greene Co. Tech. Ed. Center! Came home for a quick bite to eat and change clothes. Worked at JPJones arena for a Miranda Lambert concert. Hot,hot, hot as it also featured Jerrod Neimann and Chris Young. Wonderful music and great way to end the day plus I got paid to work security for it. What could be better! Take care.

Card Crafting Cruise

I'm new to the world of blogging so please bear with me. Yesterday I returned from a 5 day card crafting cruise out of Tampa. On the at sea days we had a total of 6 classes learning new techniques. I was excited because I'd never used alcohol inks for example and we made 2 cards using this tecchnique. Tapestry stamps were used on one card and we were given a set of the inks and stamps to keep. Great as I've never seen those in my area.  Another card used watercolor techniques then cut with Spellbinder's dies and decorated with stickles. Another card was a combination of alcohol inks and heat embossing. As an addded surprise we were each given a printer's tray with 9 openings. We decorated each opening with cruise mementos of our travel to Mexico. So we have a lovely decoration to hang or display to remind us of our experience. Will definately do this type of activity again. Card makers are the most generous and fun people to be around. Take care
